Amnesty International UK in coordination with development agency Junior and the core A-Frame team recently published Fear of the Sky. Fear of the Sky transports viewers to the besieged city of Aleppo, Syria to witness the devastation of Assad’s barrel bombs. The A-Frame site features 360 photos and narration taken by activists in the field. It will be updated with new media as they are collected.
VR is often referred to as an “empathy machine”. And it is human rights organizations like Amnesty International that are in most need of empathy. With WebVR, they can reach and transport a very large audience to the aftermath.
A-Frame v0.2.0 - The Extensible VR Web
After three fun and busy months of development, we are proud to announce the release of A-Frame version 0.2.0. This version’s overarching theme is extensibility. For WebVR to evolve quickly, in a period in which VR is dominated by closed native ecosystems, A-Frame needs to enable open experimentation and rapid iteration. A-Frame’s inherent extensibility grants developers permissionless innovation, making it the VR-flavored embodiment of the Extensible Web Manifesto.
The Washington Post Presents "Mars: An Interactive Journey"
In collaboration with a group of students and researchers at the University of Texas at Austin, The Washington Post‘s published an A-Frame feature about Mars and space exploration programs. This is a great example of how WebVR can be used to enhance existing 2D content and reach many people.
